The biggest mistake I see lately is Warriors not speced right. You are not there to deal damage, you are there to take damage. You will find yourself invited back to parties if you succeed in keeping agro. I haven't played my warrior in a while but things don't look like it has changed much.
Here are some good protection builds...
For Lvl 30
You will want to stay protection. Concussion blow is nice to have and the improved revenge is good to have until it becomes useless in later levels where higher mobs seem to be immune to it. The imp. shunder armor means you can throw out shunder armors faster and you can just throw em out whenever you need to grab agro. The imp. taunt means you can taunt more often.

Level 40
You will want to start putting points in Anticipation. The Shield mastery will help you be able to lower damage taken. You will start seeing more casters trying to heal here and there. Silence them with the imp. shield bash! The shield slam comes in handy in dealing some instant damage.

Level 50
The focused rage looks to be a must have talent to have. Put another point in Anticipation, and the defiance will keep your threat high.

Level 60
Time to respec and put some in arms and fury. Dump imp. revent, you can do without anticipation but keep defiance. You will be able to land heroic strike whenever you want. Dump imp. revenge because it sucks at this point. 5 points of cruelty for more crits
